Members of my family consider my ex-wife still a member of our family and still call her auntie or sister-in-law and I have no problem with that. I, on the other hand, have not had that same experience from her family. I can’t find fault with them because I’m sure their behavior is driven by loyalty to her but it has disappointed me given the almost 30 years that I’ve been a part of their family. My point is, make it known to them that you welcome the continued relationship and if they choose to act in kind then that’s wonderful. However, if they don’t try to take it personally people just don’t know how to best behave in that situation. No one has been evil towards me but it’s clear that the relationship is not the same and is, in fact, a bit cold.
