Obviously the version of him as known to popular culture is fictional, but he’s based on a bishop who once lived. Then it was Greece, but now it’s Turkey. I visited his church years ago. He came from a wealthy family and used his wealth to give to the needy. This sums up what is going on in our country right now. Racists simply felt threatened by a black man being in a position that they thought should be exclusive to whites.
